By: Teddy Grant The federal requirement that travelers wear masks on commercial flights, trains and buses was extended to Jan. 18, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said Tuesday. “The purpose of TSA’s mask directive is to minimize the spread of COVID-19 on public transportation,” the agency said in a statement, according to CNBC. The agency’s decision comes amid a resurgence of COVID-19 due to the highly contagious and concerning Delta variant. According to CNBC, Southwest and Spirit airlines are concerned that more people will cancel their flights as the Delta variant becomes more of an issue.
