THE EDITOR: After spending 19 years in Tobago doing a tour of duty and making many friends, my wife and I had the opportunity to revisit recently after the lifting of some covid19 restrictions. We always enjoyed travelling via a fast ferry so were encouraged to try the new ones.
From Port of Spain last week Tuesday on the Buccoo Reef was great, with very courteous staff. With my slight mobility problem, staff member Karissa was more than helpful, from riding with us in the elevator to seating us as appropriate.
However, our return trip on Saturday on the APT James was totally different as the elevator was not working and with no wheelchair on board one had to be sought from an ambulance to wheel me up to a higher level. At which point I had to walk up 13 steps, which was very challenging. Staff however were very concerned and apologetic and I was eventually seated.
On docking in Port of Spain I had to now descend the 13 steps and disembark, which I accomplished with help from staff.
Both vessels are very nice and comfortable but for any future trip I would have ensure the elevator is in proper working order.
