Malanje — About 20 people have died this year over tuberculosis in northern Malanje province, representing an increase of seven cases recorded in the same period in 2019, the supervisor of the disease control programme, Luis Quissunge, said Wednesday.
He also said that in addition to the deaths registered in the first quarter of the year, 286 patients are currently undergoing treatment giving that 230 have been diagnosed positive.
Luís Quissunge explained that 35 patients have abandoned their medication, a situation that is worrying the provincial health authorities due to the probability of aggravating the disease.
However, said the health official, tuberculosis is one of the pathologies that kills most in the province and that the programme to fight the disease has done everything to assist the people, although it lacks technicians and vehicles to monitor and treat the patients in their homes.
