Maryland’s Senior Senator Ben Cardin formally endorsed the re-election campaign of Congressman Kweisi Mfume today.
Senator Cardin was the first person to alert the media of then congressman-elect Mfume’s imminent swearing-in to the U.S. House of Representatives on a call with Baltimore City Mayor Jack Young last week.
Also, Senator Cardin and his endorsement quote are prominently featured on a Mfume campaign mailer sent to Democratic households all over the 7th Congressional District this week.
Others featured in the mail piece are U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, former U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski, former congressman Elijah Cummings, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, Jr., and former Maryland National Organization for Women co-chair Duchy Trachtenberg.
Senator Cardin, U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Anthony Brown and David Trone, Howard County State’s Attorney Rich H. Gibson and Sheriff Marcus Harris, Baltimore County Executive Johnny A. Olszewski Jr., Baltimore County Councilmen Julian Jones, Izzy Patoka and Tom Quirk, Baltimore City Councilwoman Sharon Green-Middleton, State Senators Delores Kelley and Charles Sydnor, State Delegates Ben Brooks, Pat Young and Eric Ebersole, former state senators Shirley Nathan-Pulliam and Joan Carter Conway as well as former Maryland Democratic Party Chairman Terry Lierman are amongst Mfume’s supporters.
