YOUNG golfers from Irvine's Golf Academy in Tobago had impressive performances in two tournaments last month in the US.

The academy took part in the Pepsi Little People's Golf Tournament in Quincy, Illinois, from June 17-19, before completing their US tour at the State Farm Youth Classic in Bloomington, Illinois from June 23-25.

Legacy Fleming had the best performance of the Tobago group at the Pepsi competition, placing third in the boys' 6-8 age group.

In Bloomington, Aja Taylor placed second among girls 6-7 years old and J’Ellee Logan was third among girls 6-7. Aiden Williams was seventh among boys 10-11 and Asten Williams was seventh among boys 6-7. The latter also had the lowest score in the drive, chip and putt competition.

Cherisia Irvine, founder and coach of the academy, said the players were exposed to an international level with the possibility of qualifying for the IMG Academy Junior World Golf Championships in California from July 6-11. Irvine said Fleming qualified for the tournament but will not be attending

She said, "Every child performed their best. They did very good. Some of them had 21 players to play against and they competed well in their division."
