General Charles Q. Brown Jr. was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the nation’s first black chief of staff for the United States Air Force.
General Brown has commanded a fighter squadron, the U.S. Air Force Weapons School, two fighter wings, and U.S. Air Forces Central Command.
President Donald Trump tweeted his support of the decision, saying, “My decision to appoint @usairforce General Charles Brown as the USA’s first-ever African American military service chief has now been approved by the Senate.
The Senate has confirmed President @realDonaldTrump’s nominee, General Charles Q. Brown, Jr. as Chief of Staff to the @usairforce—the first-ever African American Service Chief in the history of our Country.
Due to the delay, Brown’s nomination has come in the midst of worldwide unrest over racism and police brutality faced by the black community.
