Idara Essien, PhD and J. Luke Wood, PhD, a married couple, is looking for parents who have Black children enrolled in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade.
“We have a survey that has been developed to understand three common types of challenges that Black child face in education (e.g., criminalization, treated as lesser than, assumptions of academic inferiority).”

Dr. Essien and Dr. Wood’s research and advocacy focus on supporting Black students in education, from preschool to community college.
They have been married for 12 years and have three children of their own, two of whom are currently enrolled in early childhood education.
