The Republic Bank Laventille Netball League started in earnest on August 21, with over 20 teams competing across seven divisions in a tournament which runs until October at the Nelson Mandela Park, St Clair.
At present, the beginners' and B's divisions are being contested, as the organisers say they largely cater for schoolchildren, who are on holidays.

In the beginners' division thus far, goal-shoot Karissa Sylvester and her Maraval PYC team have made quite an impact, winning all five of their matches. Sylvester connected on six of her eight shots as Maraval got a 14-4 win over Transcend on the tournament's opening day, and she returned the next day to drain seven of her eight shots as Maraval downed Enterprise Ball Stars 8-3.
Maraval then romped to three victories without conceding, beating both PNYC and SWWTU Malvern by 13-0 margins, and also defeated Arima Unit 11-0.
Also in the beginners' division, Hill Girls have won three of their first four matches, registering wins over Cardinals (10-6), Transcend (10-4) and Fire Youths (22-9).

In the B's division, Bon Air PYC and Hill Top Ballers are standing tall, having won three games apiece. Led by goal-shoot Makala Grant, Bon Air have registered wins over 868 TNF Ballers, PNYC and Oropune PYC.
Meanwhile, Hill Top Ballers have also notched a win over Oropune, together with victories over Maraval and Ebony. Renicia Goodridge has been prolific for the Hill Top Ballers in the B's division, connecting 18 of her 23 attempts in the 21-4 trouncing of Oropune. She then put in 16 of her 24 shots in the 17-11 win over Maraval.
