Samara Ramnath slammed an unbeaten 67 runs from 49 balls to lead the TT Under-19 women’s team to a 26-run victory over Barbados in their third TT Women’s Cricket Association U19 series match of the week, held at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva, on June 27.
TT scored a modest 151/7, batting first, and restricted their opponents to 125/4 in 20 overs to seal the win.
Sent in to bat, TT struggled to get going and were precariously placed at 12/3 after just 2.2 overs. Ramnath’s introduction to the middle saw her and Brianna Harricharan (16) construct a 43-run partnership.
When Harricharan perished to make it 55/4, Delianny Espinoza (six) and Ramnath took them to 102, before the former was dismissed. KD Jazz Mitchell chipped in with 23 in the lower order while Kenika Cassar hit 12 runs.
For Barbados U19s, Jenviere Greenidge took 2/11 while Camia Matthew-Brome snagged 2/30.
In their turn at the crease, the visitors had a good start as openers Theanny Herbert-Mayers (49 not out) and Asabi Callender (37) put on 53 in six overs for the first wicket. When Callender was removed, Naijanni Cumberbatch (14) followed soon after.
TT’s bowling attack showed good fight and squeezed the Bajan batters as the overs progressed.
In the end, Sameera Naidoo’s figures of 2/19 and Mitchell’s 1/14 haul played key roles in keeping Barbados at bay.
This was TT’s third win against their Bajan counterparts in the past week as both nations gear up for the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Women's Under-19 Championships in Trinidad next month.
The June 28 contest between TT and Windward Islands was cancelled because of rain.
