POLICE have arrested four people and seized an illegal firearm and kilogrammes (kgs) of marijuana in exercises across Trinidad on July 30.
A police release said the recent actions were part of ongoing ramped-up anti-crime exercises.
In the first instance, police arrested two San Fernando men, 42 and 62, on Lady Hailes Avenue around 3.10 pm for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. The police said Southern Division Task Force officers stopped the men's white Toyota Aqua and discovered 17 plastic bags containing 1.5 kilogrammes of marijuana during a search.
In an exercise between 2 pm and 5.30 pm, Western Division officers of the Divisional Gang and Intelligence Unit and personnel from the West End CD recovered a stolen blue Hyundai Accent in Carapichima and arrested a 38-year-old suspect for the theft. They later stopped a black Nissan Frontier with ten kgs of marijuana. The 39-year-old driver, from Sea Lots, was arrested.
Later that evening North Eastern Division Task Force officers found an HK UMP submachine gun hidden below the floorboards of an abandoned building in the Petit Bourg district during a search.
Police said investigations are ongoing into all the incidents.
