POLICE are investigating an incident in which a security guard accidentally shot himself in the groin while driving to work on July 30.
Reports said the 38-year-old employee of Travtech Security Services Ltd was driving his Subaru Impreza around 5.40 pm to begin work at a Lachoos Road business.
He tried to fix his company-issued Sig Sauer P320 firearm, which was fastened to his waistband above his groin, but heard a gunshot and felt a burning sensation in his right leg.
He then went to his home at Boodoo Trace, Debe, where relatives administered first aid before taking him to the Siparia District Health Facility. Officers from the security company visited to retrieve the gun.
The guard was taken to the Point Fortin Hospital and was warded in stable condition.
