Luanda — The Angolan Government highlighted this Sunday the role that the telecommunications and information technology sector plays in the social context and the Angolan and world economy.
The recognition is expressed in a message from the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media (MINTTICS), alluding to 17 May, World Telecommunications and Information Society Day, which this year is marked under the slogan "Connect 2030: ICT for Sustainable Development Goals.
In its welcome note, MINTTICS considers the telecommunications and information technology sector as "fundamental" in the process of modernising governance, social and economic development and social inclusion.
The note highlights that the ICT sector is a "fundamental lever" in the process of socio-economic development, in the fight against poverty and in the pursuit of the Millennium Goals.
According to MINTTICS, many of the actions outlined for the sector in Angola have already generated results, reflected in the continuous improvement in the provision of public and basic telephone services, internet access and associated services.
