The protest was initially organized by workers in the music industry, and Instagram users have been sharing photos of black squares in solidarity with black victims of police violence.
In a statement, Instagram CEO, Adam Mosseri vowed to make sure something like that doesn’t happen again by pledging to amplify Black voices on Instagram.
“The irony that we’re a platform that stands for elevating Black voices, but at the same time Black people are often harassed, afraid of being ‘shadowbanned,’ and disagree with many content takedowns, is not lost on me.
As we previously reported, Mosseri also stated that Instagram will also review how its verification and harassment policy are being applied to Black content creators in hopes to help amplify their voices.
