Press Release - More than ten years ago, in 2009, I travelled by road to Timbuktu, Mali on a short field trip. The journey took us three days from the capital city of Bamako. The Hamatan winds were blowing in from the Sahara, covering everything in a coat of dust. The scorching heat radiated off every surface, and it was as dry as parched leaves.
