THE adverse weather alert has been discontinued. The Met Office says rainfall has "ceased in most areas and atmospheric conditions have improved," but the riverine flood alert remains yellow.
The Met Office issued the yellow-level adverse weather alert on Friday, which it said was expected to last until Sunday.
It had warned that 'river levels are currently near threshold values in some parts, especially along the Caroni River basin.'
There have been reports of several areas flooding throughout the country since then.
In its Saturday night update, it said, "River levels in the Caroni River continue to slowly rise due to run-off from today's rainfall activity as well as forthcoming high tide at 1.12 am.
"Parts of the Caroni River in the vicinity of Carapo and Centeno have already become bank-full and the potential for over-spilling onto the riverbanks and roadway is very high. Further downstream, river levels are contained at this time but remain high.
"There remains a moderate risk to public safety, livelihood and property, as watercourses maintain high levels and the potential for over-spilling is high, particularly for the Caroni River."
The flood alert is expected to come to an end at midday on Sunday.
