TWO men will serve out the five years and five months left on their sentences handed down by a High Court judge after they were allowed to plead guilty to the unlawful killing of a man in Sangre Grande in 2014.
Jesse Seebalack and Eddison Hall were charged with the murder of Trevon “Rawle” Ramlogan, which took place on August 4, 2014. They held plea-deal discussions with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and were allowed to plead guilty to manslaughter.
Justice Gail Gonzales sentenced them to 25 years of hard labour. Two years were shaved off their sentences for mitigating circumstances and they also received one-third discounts for their guilty pleas. The time they spent remanded brought their sentences down to five years and five months.
One of the State’s witnesses against the two was the former girlfriend of one of the men, who alleged Ramlogan had behaved inappropriately with her a few years before he was killed.
Ramlogan moved out of the area after the incident, but returned on August 4, 2014, to visit the woman’s family, as he was a family friend, and had lived with them at one time.
After Ramlogan left, the two men followed him and began kicking him in the head while dealing him “hard” blows, according to the evidence from two other witnesses. One of the accused was also seen with a wheel spanner in his hand. When arrested, one of them showed police the wheel spanner which he said was used to “hit the boy.”
Both men, the prosecution said, made certain admissions and confessions to police before they were charged with Ramlogan’s murder on August 8 and August 14, 2014, respectively.
Deputy Chief Public Defender Trevor Clarke and Chimere Gibson-Wadi represented Seebalack. Hall was represented by Michelle Gonzalez and Aixa Edwards, all of the Public Defenders’ Department.
