[UPDATED] Oropouche man gunned down after leaving casino - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

A South Oropouche man's luck ran out on July 24 when he was shot dead after leaving a San Fernando casino.

Witnesses told police Ricky Loach, 58, came out of V's Members Club around 11 pm and got into his white Toyota Axio car. At the same time a man got out of the back seat of a white Nissan Tiida parked nearby and shot at him.

The gunman then jumped into the driver's seat of the Tiida and drove off. Police said they found Loach, a professional gambler from Mon Desir, South Oropouche, dead in the driver's seat.

District medical officer Dr Dhansingh pronounced him dead and ordered his body removed pending an autopsy at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.

Police said a motive had not yet been established for the killing, as the investigation was still in its early stages and interviews were still being done. Loach's murder came hours after Ralph Maingot, 35, was gunned down in Fyzabad.

Witnesses told police Maingot was speaking with someone outside his home at Delhi Road, Fyzabad around 11.15 am when a masked gunman got out of a silver car that stopped suddenly on the road, and shot him several times. Maingot died on the scene.

He had been arrested in 2018 on drug charges. Police believe this may be tied to his killing. On July 23, Lutchmipersad Sookram, 73, was found dead at his ransacked Tabaquite home.

Although there were no signs of violence on his body, they believe he was murdered during a robbery. Meanwhile, police said investigations were "very much alive" in the murder of Rio Claro businesswoman Carissa Ramrattan.

Several people were interviewed but there were no arrests yet, or suspects in mind. Ramrattan was shot dead outside a Toyota dealership near South Park, San Fernando on July 13.

Police are also still trying to interview a male suspect who is alleged to have beaten a 22-year-old San Fernando woman to death on July 21.

The woman was hastily dropped off at the San Fernando General Hospital's accident and emergency department unresponsive around 2 am and was declared dead two hours later.

Doctors said there were marks of violence on her body. Her mother believes she was beaten to death by an abusive boyfriend, who had sent her to the hospital on several occasions.

Police told Newsday they have not been able to interview him yet in connection with her death. The police are also still trying to identify a man's body discovered with bullet holes in Ste Madeleine on July 14.
