THE EDITOR: The results of the recent UNC internal elections make for interesting reading.
The UNC has boasted of attracting a diverse make-up to the party. We therefore would expect that its members would vote for their favourites. So, not surprisingly, Kamla Persad-Bissessar received the highest individual vote tally.
One would have expected that a heavyweight like Dr Roodal Moonilal, vying for one of three deputy political leader posts, would have secured the next highest votes and show his popularity in the party. Sadly for him, Saddam Hosein, Vandana Mohit and even Shanti Boodram mustered higher tallies.
More importantly, Jealean John and David Lee, who vied for the other two deputy political leader posts, managed disappointing vote tallies.
It may be an indicator of what may happen when there is an eventual
change in leadership in the party and those likely to take over from Persad-Bissessar.
