THE EDITOR: It came to my attention, through a representative of the TT Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (TTSPCA), that government previously funded the push for animal welfare.
The TTSPCA is in a difficult position, struggling to continue its essential services. The organisation, which has long been a pillar in animal rescue, rehabilitation, and education, relies heavily on public support to operate effectively.
The funding cuts mean the TTSPCA now faces significant challenges in covering basic operational costs, including shelter maintenance, veterinary care, and food supplies for the animals.
This situation is dire, as it affects not only the welfare of animals but also the broader community that benefits from the TTSPCA's services.
The withdrawal of funding may lead to reduced capacity for rescue operations and limited outreach and educational programmes, which are vital for promoting responsible pet ownership and preventing animal cruelty.
In light of these challenges, the TTSPCA is urgently appealing to the public for support, whether through donations, volunteer work or fostering animals. The organisation remains committed to continuing its mission but needs immediate and sustained assistance to navigate this financial crisis. Please help, if you can.
