TRINIDAD AND Tobago’s Under-21 women team gave up an early three-point lead in the first set to lose to US Virgin Islands in their opening Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Under-19 and Under-21 Championship encounter on Thursday.
At the Pleasantville Indoor Sporting Arena, the hosts held on to a slim 13-10 advantage in the first set against USVI. But the visitors buckled down and scored six straight points to go 16-13 ahead, and then successfully pushed on to snag a 25-21 first set win.
TT never recovered and fell 25-13 in the second and 25-11 in the third set, as the USVI cruised to victory.

Up to press time on Thursday, TT’s U-21 men were on court against USVI in their first test of the tourney.
Other results saw Haiti claw back from a 25-23 first set loss to beat Jamaica 25-16, 25-16, 25-21 while Martinique defeated defending U-19 women champions Suriname 25-22, 25-12, 25-22.
TT have a busy day at the south venue on Friday as they play four matches. Day two begins with two U-21 men matches and will see USVI up against Suriname from noon followed by TT versus Jamaica.
TT’s U-19 women get their campaign started against USVI from 4 pm and four hours later, the U-19 men face Suriname. At 8 pm, TT’s U-21 women play for an improved result against Suriname.
