TT won ten gold and two silver en route to the Invitational category title at the 2024 Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Invitational Boxing Championship title at the Vigie Sports Complex in Castries, St Lucia, on July 27.
Punching to gold were Shawn Ramnath (27kg), who also won the schoolboy boxer of the tournament, Reyah John (50-52kg), Neraj Mahadeosingh (54-57kg), Anferney Naptiste (57-60kg), Darnell Sinaswee (60-63kg), Makieve Bellille (60-63kg), Luke Teesdale (63-66kg), Med Charles (66-70kg), Alex Khan (80-86kg) and Joshua Lewis (75-80kg).
Earning silver for TT were Zafar As-Sadiq (40-42kg) and Ishmael Hypolite (63.5-67kg).
Zade Williams (66-70kg) was also carded to fight for TT but was ill. Also on the team were Jaheem Alexander (40kg) and Paul Newallo (71-75kg).
Joining them were Warren Skeete (schoolboys coach), Jason Aqui (junior team coach) and Vicki Boodram (manager/coach).
TT won the invitational title with 33 points. Guyana (14 pts) were second with four gold and two silver while Barbados (13 pts) claimed third with three gold and two silver.
The overall OECS boxing title was retained by St Lucia’s (50 pts) haul of ten gold and ten silver. Grenada (18 pts) were second with nine silver and Martinique (14 pts) third with two gold and two silver.
This tournament was held in accordance with International standards, under International Boxing Association-approved regulations.
