Trinidad and Tobago sprinter Michelle-Lee Ahye books Olympics spot - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

TT sprinter Michelle-Lee Ahye booked a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with an impressive showing at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Games New Life Invitational in Florida, USA, on Saturday.

Running in heat three of the women's 100-metre preliminaries, Ahye clocked 10.96 seconds to dip under the Olympic qualification standard of 11.15 seconds. Jamaican Elaine Thompson won the heat in 10.92. TT runner Khalifa St Fort qualified for the next round with a time of 11.36, while Semoy Hackett did not start.

Kai Selvon advanced after clocking 11.45 to finish seventh in heat two. In heat one, Kelly-Ann Baptiste advanced after stopping the clock in 11.29 for a third-place finish. Reyare Thomas was seventh in 11.64 and missed qualification.

In the A final, Ahye was fourth in 11.04. The winner was Thompson in 10.87.

In the B final, St Fort was fifth in 11.33, Selvon seventh in 11.43 and Baptiste had a false start.

In the men's 100m B final, Thompson was fourth in 10.27 and fellow TT runner Jerod Elcock was sixth in 10.34.

In the men's 200m finals, TT's Kyle Greaux took silver in 20.84.

Deon Lendore grabbed gold in the men's 400m A final in 45.48 and Che Lara snatched silver in 47.32 in the B final. In the women's 400m final, Janeil Bellille was ninth and last in 1:00.07.

In the men's 110 hurdles finals, Mikel Thomas was fourth in 13.55.

TT won the women's 4x100m relay in 43.96 and TT's men's teams were second and third. The A team clocked 39.75 and the B team clocked 40.30.
