Swimmers Zahara Anthony, Micah Alexander star in 9-10 age group - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

ZAHARA Anthony and Micah Alexander ended the National Short Course Age Group Swimming Championships as the most successful swimmers in the nine-ten age group category when the meet concluded at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva on July 14.

The swimmers excelled in all four strokes – freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke.

They ended the meet in style in the final session.

Anthony, of Marlins, won the girls' 200-metre individual medley in two minutes, 47.33 seconds (2:47.33) and then demonstrated her speed to capture the girls' 50m freestyle in 30.35.

Alexander, of Eagles Aquatics, was also victorious in the 200m IM and 50m freestyle events. He won the IM in 2:48.30 and the 50m freestyle in 31.09.

Nikoli Blackman, Zara Persico, Andrew Giddings and Kyle Leera were among the others who earned multiple gold medals.

Blackman, who has completed his first year at the University of Tennessee, took gold in the boys' 18-and-over 100m butterfly (53.86) and 50m freestyle races (21.76).

Persico took top spot in the girls' 11-12 200m backstroke (2:41.77) and 50m freestyle (28.23). In the boys' eight-and-under category, Giddings snatched the 100m IM (1:36.81) and the 50m freestyle races (37.31).

Leera was one of the standout swimmers in the boys' 11-12, winning the 100m butterfly (1:07.33) and 50m freestyle (27.64).

Many swimmers earned Goodwill A and B standard times over the weekend. The Goodwill Games will take place later this year.
