The U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision today on the future of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, rejecting President Donald Trump’s quest to end the program for young immigrants.
Led by Chief Justice John Roberts in a 5-4 decision, the High Court ruled that the Trump Administration did not properly end the program, according to the Associated Press.
While several states did not support DACA and sued to block the program, civil rights organizations such as the NAACP, the ACLU and others also filed suit against the Trump Administration. ”
The decision by the Supreme Court to block the Trump administration’s attempt to end DACA and rule in our favor provides a glimmer of hope for so many in this country,” said NAACP president and CEO, Derrick Johnson.
The Denver Post reports that the SCOTUS decision sends the DACA issue back to Homeland Security, which gives the Trump Administration another shot at terminating the program.
