Racism, economic policies, climate change, where we live and work are all social determinants of health. This panel examines how these factors impact health equity—or inequity—for Black Americans. Social determinants of health represent all external and societal factors that impact health outcomes. Awareness is critical when addressing health disparities impacting Black Americans, but it must be coupled with meaningful policy changes, says Rashad Burgess, vice president of Advancing Health and Black Equity at Gilead Sciences. From policy changes to self advocay, panelists examine what can be done to address social determinants of health in the Black community.
