The Penal/Debe Regional Corporation (PDRC) bought a new van for its municipal police to increase patrol mobility and response to maintain a safe and secure region.
PDRC chairman Dr Allen Sammy said the handing-over ceremony took place on Monday in Debe.
"We saw the need for it, and we are always trying to buy vehicles for the officers," Sammy said on Tuesday.
"They are community-oriented police, and the burgesses seem to want that kind of policing. We now have several working vehicles. The challenge is manpower, and I understand that a batch is in training."
Sammy said he was unable to recall the cost of the van.
Also at the ceremony were the corporation's CEO, Satragie Maharaj, Insp Sash Maharaj and other municipal police, and administration staff.
