The first of three memorials to pay tribute to a father whose life was cut short by an overzealous police officer was scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. local time (2 p.m. ET) on Thursday at North Central University in Minneapolis.
The charges came amid national protests against police violence that were inspired in part by Floyd’s killing on Memorial Day.
The public viewing was set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. local time, followed by the memorial at 3 p.m.
Lastly, Floyd will be laid to rest in his native Houston, where his funeral will take place.
Floyd’s memorial in Houston will take place next Tuesday, June 9, at 11 a.m. local time, also at Fountain of Praise.
