Mechanic fails, so looking for pundit - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

THE EDITOR: Imagine the shock and horror one feels when your beloved car starts having problems. It's the only thing that allows you to reach your place of work since taxis don't exist in your neck of the woods. I love my car, it is my first car, I have all the memories with it and have even started identifying with it as a "brand" man.

Well over the past few years, the car started from one small problem, and with each month that went by more and more problems developed. What to do? My wife keeps telling me to just get a new car, but I can't help it, I love this car. Yes, I said it.

I spoke to a few friends and selected the best mechanic according to everyone I know. The guy was very impressive. He reassured me that though the troubleshooting process was tedious, he was the man for the job. I slept soundly that night for the first time in a long while. My baby will be working smoothly again.

When I called the mechanic after a few days, the man told me the most ridiculous thing ever. He said the car had "an evil" in it. Can you imagine that in 2023, with all the diagnostic tools and scanners available, this man will come to me with this kinda thing? I wouldn't have minded this too much if it was some crazy mechanic, but this man was qualified and reputable.

What to do now? I already made a rather sizeable downpayment to the man and now have to go looking for a pundit. Well yes, look at my predicament now. The intelligent thing will be to get someone better with a logical and systematic approach to the problem, using all the data and techniques made available by the hundreds of other car owners facing the same problem. They somehow seem to have the magic fix.

That is how ridiculous the Commissioner of Police sounds. Let's get a better mechanic or bring back the last pundit who kept the evil at bay.
