The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, 'High casualties are probable and the disaster is likely widespread.' Haiti's Civil Protection said there had been fatalities and damage, CNN reported. According to USGS, the earthquake hit 7.5 miles northeast of Saint-Louis-du-Sud and eight miles deep, which is stronger and deeper than the earthquake that struck the country in 2010, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.
