A man who went into a forested area over the weekend in Rio Claro to collect money from someone was shot dead.
Fabricator Carlos Modeste, 31, of Duff Trace, Princes Town, was gunned down around 10.30 pm on August 3 at Pinder Trace off Dades Road, Rio Claro.
The police said Modeste and a female relative went to the area to collect money from the person who was hunting at the time.
When they arrived, Modeste got out of the car and walked towards a man who emerged out of the bushes with a shotgun.
About 15 minutes later, Modeste was walking back to the car when a gunshot was heard.
The relative got out of the car and ran into a nearby bushy area, where she hid for about ten minutes. After she heard a vehicle driving off, she checked and found Modeste unresponsive with gunshot wounds.
She returned to the car and drove off to get help.
She walked through a cassava field and informed people in a house.
The police were alerted, and Insp Mahabir and PCs Kallicharan and Rampersad were among the first responders.
The police found the body with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region II, were also alerted.
A DMO viewed and ordered the removal of the body, pending an autopsy at the Forensic Science Centre in St James in the week.
No one has been arrested and investigations are ongoing.
