World record-holder Brian Lara and Dominican prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit were among those who heaped praises on West Indies middle-order batsman Kavem Hodge after his maiden international century on the second day's play of the second Test against England at Trent Bridge on July 19.
Playing in his fourth Test match, the 31-year-old Hodge scored 120 off 171 balls in the West Indies' first innings as they reached to 351 for five at the end of day two, in response to England's first innings total of 416.
Hodge struck 19 boundaries in his knock and shared in a 175-run stand for the fourth wicket with fellow Dominican Alick Athanaze, who struck 82 off 99 balls – his maiden Test fifty.
"Well played, son...your first Test ton!" Lara wrote via Instagram. "Enjoy the moment and I hope this is the catalyst that takes your game to another level."
Skerrit also took to social media to share in delight with his countryman.
"Dominica is immensely proud of Kavem Hodge's remarkable achievement in scoring his maiden Test century," the Dominica PM said.
"Kaveem's performance stands as a phenomenal example of perseverance and dedication. On behalf of the government and the people of Dominica, I extend our most heartfelt congratulations to him."
Cricket commentator Ian Bishop, a former West Indies pacer, also chimed in on Hodge's feat.
