Kamla: Rowley hates whistleblower, Farley - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar claims the Prime Minister hates Tobago House of Assembly (THA) whistleblower Akil Abdullah and THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine.

She made this claim at a UNC cottage meeting in Sangre Grande on Thursday.

In a television interview earlier in the day, Dr Rowley disclosed he had sent a pre-action protocol letter to whistleblower Akil Abdullah for allegations that Abdullah made against him.

Abdullah's allegations formed the basis of claims made by Augustine that Rowley and other high-ranking government and police officials were part of a conspiracy to bring his administration down.

Rowley also declared that Augustine was out of place to tell him he did not understand the THA Act.

Persad-Bissessar recalled that Government had previously advocated bringing whistleblower legislation to Parliament as one method to fight corruption.

"Suddenly, Rowley dislikes whistleblowers. The only good whistleblower is one who complains about anyone besides Rowley and the PNM."

Persad-Bissessar claimed that Rowley is obsessed with Augustine and "out to destroy" the people of Tobago.

"Remember he warned them that he would never forgive them if they voted against him."

Persad-Bissessar also criticised Rowley for questioning whether THA presiding officer Abby Taylor breached the assembly's standing orders by allowing Augustine to play a video of Abdullah making allegations against Rowley and other people at a special sitting of the assembly on July 19.
