WHEN racing action resumes on August 1 at Santa Rosa Park in Arima turfites will witness a seven-race holiday card.
The feature event on the day’s programme is The Midsummer Classic, a grade one race open to West Indian-bred three-year-olds that will run over a distance of 1,800 metres on the turf course.
This contest has attracted nine thoroughbreds with champion trainer John O’Brien saddling three of the nine runners. Other entrants in the event will come from trainers Fred De Freitas; Johnathan Lyder; Derek Balwant; Lester Alexis; Glenn Mendez and Michael Lutchman. It is expected that Uncle Rog will be sent off as the pre-race favourite before starter Wayne Campbell sends the field at 4.35 pm.
This time Guineas winner Uncle Rog will have a tougher assignment with his stablemate Headlines Again returning to racing action after a seven-month layoff due to injury. Also in this event will be Forever Grand who will be seeking a hat-trick as well as Secret Pages, the very impressive filly who will be looking to take full advantage of the O’Brien trio.
When punters journey to Santa Rosa Park they will have the pleasure in seeing two of the seven American Bred horses that arrived on our shores at the end of May making their debut in the fifth race. These horses are Sneaky Cheeky, being trained by Ramesh Ramroop and Striking Chrome that is conditioned by Clyde Rambaran.
Also on tap for punters will be racing coming from Caymanas Park Jamaica; Woodbine Race Course in Canada; and Del Mar Race Course in California.
Post time for the seven-race holiday card is slated at 1 pm.
