DATT 6th form internship gets going - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

For the third year in a row, Tatil, Tatil Life, and the Diabetes Association of TT (DATT) will host 36 students for the Sixth Form Summer Internship.

Students were chosen from a pool of 700 applicants, to provide them with comprehensive medical experience, helping them become well-rounded healthcare professionals, said a media release.

The 2024 cohort was recently launched with a variety of activities planned for the next seven weeks. Participants will learn about the biochemistry of diabetes, the importance of ethics in medical research, health promotion and nutrition, intervention and fundraising strategies. They’ll also get a chance to visit Guardian Media Ltd to gain advertising insights, UWI for an introduction to lab skills and will practise blood-sugar and blood-pressure testing.

Marketing manager for Tatil and Tatil Life, Stephen Hamel-Smith, said in the release, “This internship offers a unique opportunity for students to interact with and positively influence various communities, including their own communities. During the internship, they’ll engage with different facets of the healthcare system, and the experience they gain here will not only broaden their understanding of diabetes but also equip them with the skills to drive meaningful change.”

At the end of the programme, the students will be able to join the DATT Youth Advocacy Arm and begin advocating among their peers for positive behaviour change from young, the release said.

Tatil offered its congratulations to the aspiring medical professionals and said it looked forward to sharing news of their activities over the next two months.
