Cecile George to read at Playwrights Workshop Trinbago theatre series - Trinidad and Tobago Newsday

The August instalment of the Playwrights Workshop Trinbago (PWT) Monthly Readers Theatre Series (MRTS), held the first Wednesday of every month will feature the cold reading of the rewrite of the screenplay After 12, written by Cecile George.

The reading will take place on August 2 at 7 pm (GMT -4) Queen's Hall Lobby, 1-3 St Ann's Rd, Port of Spain, and online via Zoom.

In After 12, 14-year-old Aylana Reese invokes the spirit of her African ancestral spiritual ancestor the moko jumbie to fight against her abuser, her uncle Blues, who is grooming her younger sister Lisette. When her mother Glynis, who refuses to believe Aylana's accusations, leaves the two girls in Blues' care because she's migrating, Aylana turns to the moko and her friend Amit Das, who runs her late father's martial arts jab-jab troupe for help to save her sister and herself.

George spent 25 years in film and television production on the east coast of the USA, and successfully managed her own production company. She has a BA in communications management from Howard University and an MBA from the University of Miami.

She acted as researcher, interviewer, narrator, and editor of a historical audio podcast series titled Growing Up Woodbrook. The series is currently available on YouTube, and will be uploaded to audio podcast streaming in August.

George is currently working on several film projects for her new locally based production company, Pelau Pictures (PelauPics.com). In her spare time, she enjoys travel, food, history, art, and culture. And, of course, movies and TV.

PWT is inviting actors, playwrights, directors, producers and the general public to join us in person at the Queen's Hall Lobby, or via Zoom to listen to the cold reading and participate in the discussion to assist the playwright with the further development of the script.
