Press Release:- Each year, worldwide, unsafe foods cause 600 million cases of foodborne diseases (FBD) and 423,000 deaths. In the Caribbean Region, each year, roughly 1 in 49 people acquire foodborne illness due to consumption of contaminated food or drink, and this further increases to 1 in 11 persons during mass gathering events. Over 40% of cases are noted in children 1-4 years. On December 6-7, 2021, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), convened a virtual Foodborne Diseases Surveillance and Food Safety Training Workshop to bolster countries’ ability to prevent and respond to FBD and build capacity in food safety
