THE Calypso Girls fell 74-34 to Uganda in Group D at the 2023 Vitality Netball World Cup at the Cape Town International Convention Centre Arena II in Cape Town, South Africa on Sunday.
Despite the loss, TT still advanced to the knock-out phase along with New Zealand and Uganda from Group D.
Singapore lost all three of their matches in the group and will now play for rankings.
TT will play the top three teams from Group C including Jamaica, South Africa and Wales with matches starting on Monday.
It was a close contest after the first quarter as Uganda were leading TT 14-11.
TT fell apart after the opening period as Uganda outscored the Calypso Girls 19-7 in the second quarter and led comfortably at half-time 33-18.
Uganda continued to dominate the match scoring 21 points in the third quarter compared to nine by TT. In the fourth quarter, TT were disappointing again scoring just seven goals and Uganda netted 20 more goals to win by a 40-goal margin.
Afeisha Noel was the top shooter for TT scoring 29 goals, experienced Joelisa Cooper converted three times and Tiana Dillon scored the other two goals for the Calypso Girls.
For Uganda, Mary Cholhok was on top of her game scoring 35 goals to lead the way.
TT now have one win and two losses from their three matches. TT were crushed 76-27 by New Zealand in their opening match on Friday, but bounced back to defeat Singapore 49-36 on Saturday.
