“The more things change, the more they remain the same.”Barbados has been pleasingly quiet in recent weeks as the Winston “Iston Bull” Branch-gun truce has held firm, and the entire country is in his debt as a result. The seismic shift in gun violence on the island, as shaky as it may be, stands as a stark reminder that what the island has witnessed in recent years, could get much worse. We are reminded of how debilitating gun crimes and more particularly gun murders can be on the society by what we are witnessing in our neighbouring Caribbean Community nation of Saint Lucia. The senseless killings that have extended from gang members to pursuing family members and close friends of the targets, has left the beautiful island nation almost paralysed and its government scrambling to find sustainable solutions. The Saint Lucia gun problem is just too close for comfort.
