NEWCOMER Kaile Auvray and returning player Jomal Williams are excited to be with the TT senior football team for two international friendly matches against Jamaica on Saturday and Tuesday.
The first match against Jamaica takes place at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall from 7 pm TT time and the second will be played at the National Stadium in Kingston.
Auvray, speaking to TT Football Association media on Thursday, said, “It is a very big opportunity for me. I am just happy to be here with the squad and to be able to live this experience and keep on growing as a player and obviously, to represent TT is a lot of pride for me and my family.”
Auvray, 18, was born in France, but spent most of his life in the US. He has a Trinidadian mother and his father is from Guadeloupe.
Auvray said he was ready when he received the call from TT head coach Angus Eve. “What I do, I stay ready for anything, so when opportunities arise I could seize it and take my chance. I don’t know if I thought this would have come so fast, but I was ready for it.”
Auvray played for St Martin in a friendly against TT earlier this year. Despite a 2-0 defeat to TT, Auvray was a bright spark for St Martin, showing good individual skill, passing and a thunderous shot which rocked the TT bar from distance in the second half.
Williams, who has been playing professionally in El Salvador for years, said, “It is a very special feeling to be back with the guys. I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. As you say, it is almost three years I have not been here, so in this moment I am very thankful and very happy to join the group.”
Williams wants to inspire the inexperienced players. “Now that I am here I see that it is a very young group and I am willing to bring my experience that I have from El Salvador into this group. I want to be an example for some of the younger guys and hopefully I can play my best, do my best and help the team to win these two friendly games.”

As the world commemorates the UN’s Anti-Corruption Day, the office of the Attorney General and the Anti-Corruption Investigation Bureau have teamed up for a social media campaign to address corrupt practices.
Anti-Corruption Day is marked on December 9.
The partnership aims to raise awareness and sensitise the public as part of a national Anti-Corruption Risk Assessment Programme. The social media campaign can be found by searching the hashtag #thatiscorruption and the slogan “Get to Zero… For a Corruption Free T&T.”
In a media release on Wednesday, the partnership, which also includes the UN Development Programme (UNDP), said the campaign includes promoting Crime Stoppers’ call-in number 800 TIPS to report corrupt actions locally.
“Locally, for the year ending October 2021, over 840 reports of corruption were received by the ACIB. None of the reports on record was made using the 800-TIPS system. The anonymous hotline has traditionally been associated with reporting violent crimes, not white-collar crimes or corruption.”
Snr Supt Deryck Walker of the ACIB is quoted as saying the unit was never promoted as an anti-corruption tool.
“Corruption is not treated as a crime that devastates lives. However, the hotline has played a significant part in combatting violent crime, and it holds the same potential for bribery, fraud, extortion, embezzlement and nepotism.”
The release said with public-sector officers as the main target, the programme seeks to identify threats corruption poses to covid19 recovery efforts with the aim of developing measures to prevent and negate such offences.
In June the Auditor General noted over $8 million was lost after citizens accessed both the salary relief grant and the income support grant. The report said over 2,000 people took advantage of the system put in place to address loss of earning as a result of the pandemic.
Last week Lystra Irving, a senior public servant at the Inland Revenue Division, was charged with stealing $1.49 million and multiple other offices after allegedly falsifying government records.
The release said the theme of this year’s Anti-Corruption Day is to highlight the rights and responsibilities of everyone
in tackling corruption.
“This year’s commemoration also promotes the need to unite and face this global problem with shared responsibility. Every person - young and old – plays a role in anti-corruption corruption for societies to achieve greater resilience and integrity at all levels.”

DAYS after Monday's 14-to-one trouncing of the PNM by the fledgling PDP in the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) election, former Tobago West MP Stanford Callender on Wednesday resigned as chairman of the Tobago Island Council, as disclosed in a PNM statement from PNM PRO Laurel Lezama-Lee Sing on Thursday.
In his resignation letter to council leader Tracy Davidson-Celestine he said all other executive members should also resign.
\"After serious consideration and some introspection and given the outcome of the recent THA elections, I have decided to tender my resignation as chairman of the Tobago Council of the PNM with immediate effect. My decision is to give the party an opportunity to restructure and re-engineer itself going forward.
\"It is also my hope that the executive of the council will do the same.\"
His letter went on to say it had been a pleasure to work along former THA chief secretary Kelvin Charles and Davidson-Celestine as political leaders in Tobago and all party colleagues.
Newsday asked Callender if his resignation might suggest blame was attached to him for Monday's defeat.
He replied, \"I have no blame to attach. The party has lost the election.\"
Newsday pressed on why he resigned if not blameworthy.
He replied, \"I have assessed the situation. We have lost the election. As chairman, this is collective responsibility. I have decided to resign with immediate effect.\"
Newsday asked if anyone else should resign. He replied, \"You will see everything spelt out in my letter.\"
Asked if Davidson-Celestine should resign, he replied, \"I have no comment to make. The decision will be hers.\"
The PNM statement announcing Callender's resignation detailed his political career and paid tribute to him.
It acknowledged receiving his letter of resignation effective as of Wednesday, to let the party restructure and re-engineer itself.
\"The very distinguished and venerable Stanford Callender served the people of Tobago, the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and the PNM for over 35 years.\"
The party said Callender was a temporary opposition senator (1987-1990) and then a government senator (1992-1995), and was elected Tobago West MP in 2001, 2002 and 2007, serving as minister of state in the Office of the Prime Minister from 2001-2010. The statement said Callender was instrumental in the development of the Tobago Island Council.
\"Mr Callender's commitment to the PNM is immeasurable.\"
The statement praised him for working closely with Tobago West MP Shamfa Cudjoe and for THA chief secretaries Orville London, Charles and Davidson-Celestine.
The party said, \"Widely regarded as a trusted elder, many in the PNM frequently sought Mr Callender's wisdom and counsel.\"
Viewing him as \"humble, dedicated, focused and rational,\" Lezama-Lee Sing's statement said, \"I extend my sincerest gratitude to Mr Callender for his decades of yeoman service to party and to country and I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.\"
