Luanda — Air transport companies and travel agencies who operate passenger flights in contempt of the state of emergency rules announced by Angolan Government will be fined or get their licence impounded, the Transport Ministry says.
In a note that reached Angop, Mintrans says the decision follows information in its possession that people linked to travel agencies and international flight operations are offering international passenger flights at a time the country has entered the fourth stage of the state of emergency due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Mintrans explains that passenger flights remain suspended due to the nationwide lockdown resulting from the state of emergency declared by the Head of State on March 25 this year and subsequent extensions supported by presidential decrees that only clear entry and exit of basic commodities and services, humanitarian aid and sick people.
The source also recalls that the presidential decrees also make exceptions for transportation of cargo and passengers covered by humanitarian aid and emergency flights and those flying passengers serving oil and mining activity in the country for which permissions are issued by concerned entities.
A new 15-day state of emergency period going until May 25 has taken effect as from 00:00 am today (Monday), as part of the measures to contain the expansion of the covid-19 pandemic in the country.
