The Allegheny County Health Department reported 83 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, bringing the total case count to 2,651.
Monday’s report follows the 96 cases reported Sunday, the highest since March 14 when officials announced the first cases in the county and the first time the county has led the state in number of new cases.
Health officials also announced four hospitalizations and no new COVID-related fatalities on Monday.
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen held a briefing Sunday afternoon about the increase of COVID-19 cases and new mitigation measures.
“For the first time since COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the state, Allegheny County led the state in the number of new COVID-19 cases,” Fitzgerald said.
