The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet recently released a report that provided a glimpse of how Africans and people of African descendent were mistreated for centuries starting from slavery. The investigative reporting started after the killing of George Floyd last year by former police officer Derek Chauvin, who was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison. The report highlights at least 190 deaths, mostly in the United States, to show how police officers weren’t being held accountable in killing unarmed Black people and people from African descendant.
