Sol Butler: First African-American to Quarterback a Team for All Four Years of College

Sol Butler was a football player who was also known for his outstanding skills in track and field.

In college, Butler quarterbacked the German College football team in 1916.

During his freshman year, Butler led the college to a 13-7 win over St. Joseph College.

Butler later signed on with the NFL in 1923 with the Rock Island Independents.

Later that year, the New York Giants refused to let its all-white team on the field until Canton withdrew Butler as starting quarterback.
