Connecticut (BNC)– ESPN’s Alex Scarborough confirmed Friday June 19 that NCAA officials passed a new policy that bans all of its championship events from being held in states that still fly the Confederate flag.
This could have direct impact on the South Eastern Conference (SEC) and South Western Athletic Conference (SWAC) , as both conferences have tenured schools from the state of Mississippi in their respective conference.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey made a statement via Twitter in reaction to this new policy,:
“It is past time for change to be made to the flag of the State of Mississippi, Our students deserve an opportunity to learn and compete in environment that are inclusive and welcoming to all.
If Mississippi refuses to change their flag this time, they will consider banning championship events from the state until it is.”
Alcorn State University located in Lorman, Mississippi, has held that privilege of hosting the SWAC Championship game for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
