Dr. Joseph L. Henry was the first African-American professor at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine with his appointment in 1974. He created the department of oral diagnosis and oral radiology which he still heads. In 1978 Dr. Henry became the first African-American to become an Associate Dean at the Dental School.
