Experts have stressed the need to decarbonise the upstream sector to enhance sustainability and address issues relating to climate change. They made the call at the maiden edition of Asharami Square in Lagos, arguing that since the upstream sector contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, implementing decarbonisation strategies could mitigate the environmental impact of the sector's operations while promoting long-term sustainability. They further mentioned that decarbonising the upstream sector was essential for mitigating climate change and ensuring the sustainability of energy resources and urged the adoption of cleaner technologies, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
