The president also stressed the importance of keeping the economy open after months of stifling movement restrictions.

He urged citizens not to drop their guard and continue adhering to the health rules, such as wearing face masks and respecting curfew times.

South Africa has recorded just over 800,000 coronavirus infections - more than a third of the cases reported across the African continent - and over 20,000 deaths.

A few days after my call with Rep. Reynolds, I received a call on my cell phone from U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee on Wednesday, March 25th.

As I was driving to the hospital, Congresswoman Jackson Lee told me that she had already spoken to the Chief Medical Officer for United Memorial Medical Center (UMMC), Dr. Joseph Varon, and that he was prepared to receive me and administer the test.

One of the first things Dr. Varon ordered his medical staff to do with me upon my arrival to the ER was to do a CT Scan.

Not only did I have a severe case of pneumonia when I entered ICU, my liver and kidneys also needed to be protected from the virus; my heart rate was through the roof; my heart condition worsened and I was headed to the point of potential heart failure; my blood pressure was high; I had a sharp pain in my right side; I continued to have heavy diarrhea episodes; and I still had a loss of appetite.

From the very beginning, I had to rely on my faith in God, as I continued to deal with the mental anguish of being in this Coronavirus-specific ICU area, particularly knowing that there were people around with breathing issues and hearing machines go off all day and night, and as I regularly looked at the news and read reports showing the number of people dying on a daily basis as a result of

The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors, a civil society group pivotal in the revolution that ousted former president Omar al-Bashir, said attacks on medical teams by security forces and civilians had become a common phenomenon, especially in emergency units when security of health personnel is paramount.

Earlier in April, the medical director for Jebel Aulia Hospital in the capital, Khartoum, had to close after its entire team of doctors went on strike following a confrontation.

\"Hospitals are not equipped properly, there is almost a lack of everything: lifesaving drugs, medical devices and staff,\" Dr Hameda Zakria Omer from the Police Hospital in Khartoum said.

\"There is no PPE for all medical staff in almost all hospitals, except for those working in emergency departments, all others deal with patients only with surgical masks, including those working in the high-risk ICU (Intensive Care Unit),\" Dr Hameda Zakria said.

Central Committee Doctors agree that the greatest medical challenge they are currently facing may not be the Coronavirus as such, but the lack of medical staff available in hospitals across the country.

WHO’s Executive Director of Emergencies, Dr. Michael Ryan explained during the press conference that outbreak confirmed by health officials in South America, Africa and South Asia, actually rose sharply just in the last week alone.

Tuesday, it was confirmed that over 5.5 million cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed worldwide since the start of the global pandemic, resulting in at least 346,836 deaths.

Cassava Fintech International (CFI), a subsidiary of the Econet Group, has launched the Sasai Health Status Report (SHSR), a secure blockchain technology-supported solution expected to digitise the testing process, establish citizens’ COVID-19 status, enable them to share their testing results through a digital platform and help businesses safely get employees back to work as economies reopen, following restrictive lockdowns.

“The Sasai Health Status Report will, at the point of testing, capture a person’s COVID-19 health status which they can confidentially share, at the user’s discretion, with those who need to know – such as one’s family members and their employers – in a manner that respects personal data privacy and using secure blockchain technology,” Mandivenga said.

The use of the technology in the design of the health status report will be seen as a crucial firewall embedded in the platform against counterfeit tests and fake test kits.

According to The New York Times, the use of tear gas can cause damage to people’s lungs and make them more susceptible to contracting a respiratory disease such as COVID-19.

Considering many of the protests have been led by Black people, there’s no telling how folks will be affected once the protests subside.

Black people already disproportionately suffer pre-conditions like asthma and heart disease, which can impact their ability to fight the coronavirus.

More Black and brown people also tend to be essential workers, so professionals were already working in high risks jobs, which could potentially spread the disease to their community.

Dr. Melva Thompson-Robinson knows the data on the disparate impact of the corona virus and COVID-19 on African Americans and other minorities.

The Gatewood story is a horrific but not atypical reminder of the fatal outcomes that Dr. Thompson-Robinson attributes to a long history of sub-optimal health care experienced by African Americans and the inherent bias that bleeds into all aspects of American life, from education to housing to employment opportunities.

By way of example, in Louisiana, African Americans comprise about 30 percent of the population and over 70 percent of the COVID-19 patients, Thompson-Robinson noted, while in Georgia, they constitute 32 percent of the population but 52 percent of the cases.

Even when presenting to a physician or medical staff in a timely manner, as Ms. Gatewood attempted to do in Michigan, unconscious bias or stereotypes can weigh in on what may ultimately be an ill-formed medical diagnosis or spoke of her own experience of having to forcefully advocate for a family member.

Offering one reason for hope, Alvarez said, “I truly believe that COVID-19 is shifting the conversation when it comes to greater understanding of historical inequities in health, in economic opportunity, in overall well-being – historical inequities that many of us have known have existed forever.”

No Sesso’s Autumn/Winter 2020 campaign comes at just the right time.

The queer-positive brand No Sesso consistently puts minorities at the helm of their brand and the latest campaign for the label’s Autumn/Winter 2020 collection proves this to be true.

Created and produced in the home of Autumn Randolph, the brand’s co-designer, the images taken by Clifford Prince King illustrate the narrative of the collection entitled “A Vignette of the Renaissance on 24th Street.”

The inspiration spawns from co-founder and designer Pierre Davis’ time spent with Randolph in her home on 24th Street in the West Adams neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The No Sesso Autumn/Winter 2020 collection will be available made to order.

It is time for an ‘Office of Men’s Health’ because preventable male death and illness is decreasing the quality of life for everyone.

As bad as this is for males in general, men of some minority groups with preexisting conditions, and socioeconomically disadvantaged men, have even higher rates of disease and death.

Men’s Health Network (MHN) and the National Black Men’s Health Network, the oldest and largest not-for-profit advocacy and education organizations in the world focusing on the wellbeing and health of boys, men and their families, believe that the most efficient way to effect this type of change is for congress to create an ‘Office of Men’s Health’ within HHS.

The office would coordinate national initiatives and existing government programs, and allocate resources to address the health disparities seen in boys and men.

We believe now is an opportune time to establish such capabilities to help address the health and wellness challenges faced by our nation’s boys and men not only during times of emergencies and pandemics like we face today, but all the time.

After being seen by doctors in the ER, the medical staff informed us that my mom would need to be admitted to address her serious health condition, which turned out to be worse than believed.
