The deaths of two Black transgender women in Chicago are making national headlines as activists rally for action and schools highlight safety measures for transgender students. Just a few days apart, Tatiana Whetstone and Elise Malary’s bodies were found in two separate incidents. Chicago Suntimes reported that Whetstone’s death was ruled a homicide after her body was found beaten to death in an alley trash can in the city’s Chatham neighborhood on March 18. She was reported missing by relatives. Malary, 31, was reported missing on March 11, and her body was later found along the lakefront in Evanston on March 19.
