This Friday, June 19, the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy is partnering with D. Cipher to host “Arising: A Juneteenth Celebration” from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Campbell Terrace along the Dequindre Cut.
The event features local community leaders speaking, live music and several Detroit-based vendors, and will provide attendees with the opportunity to learn how to support grassroots initiatives and organizations in the fight for social justice for all people.
Leaders speaking at the event include author and activist Yusef Shakur, Monica Lewis Patrick from We the People of Detroit, Dwan Thompson of Black Leaders Detroit, Dr. Rose Moten of Bloom Transformation Center and Omar Dismuke II of The Aware Brand.
Performances include: Sophiyah E, Trey Priest, Dango Forlane, Nique Love Rhodes, Debra Walker, J.uuni, DJ ME., Nanou Djiapo West African Dance Company and The Collective Detroit Dance Company.
Detroit City Distillery will provide hand sanitizer and Kerek Designs will supply masks for all attendees.
