“O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light”

“The Star-Spangled Banner” was originally a poem written by Francis Scott Key in 1814.

The first verse of the poem has become the national anthem of America, but scholars and activists are asking for the song to be replaced.

Colin Kaepernick #7 and Eric Reid #35 of the San Francisco 49ers kneel in protest during the national anthem prior to playing the Los Angeles Rams in their NFL game at Levi’s Stadium on September 12, 2016 in Santa Clara, California.

Former NFL star, Colin Kaepernick, began kneeling in 2016 during the anthem in protest of racial injustice and police brutality in the United States.
